The second documented meeting took place on July 19, 1993. Attending this secret meeting were: Ernie Quantz (now a judge), Boris Tyzuk, Lance Bernard (Crown Counsel, Vancouver), Bill Scigliano, Joan Young, Marg Panton, Katherine Ferguson, Roseanne Mitchell and Bethan Everett. Accounts of this meeting differ, with some attendees suffering from “cloudy memory syndrome”.
The information about this secret meeting didn’t actually come from an FOI request, although many folks tried to access information about it. Man oh man did the lid of secrecy close tight around this one!
The details about this meeting came as a result of the Richard Peck report….the nice man hired by the government to be a “Special Prosecutor”, and investigate the chief law enforcement officer of the Province….who had just happened to sign a false affidavit.
After it was discovered that another secret meeting had taken place, a journalist associated with BC Report and others submitted an FOI request for details about the meeting. Naturally, the FOI case was lost.
What was requested were the notes taken by attendee Boris Tyzuk. Sadly, we will never know what exactly was discussed, and if initial plans were underway to see British Columbia’s Freedom of Information law gutted.
Interestingly, the MSM began to take an interest into the obsession the Office of the Ministry of Attorney General was exhibiting to one side of a public policy issue…who just happened to also be the political enemies of the same government.
Another abortion embarrassment to government.
