I assume that most of these abortions were performed by the Willow Women’s Clinic, located in Vancouver, or the Vancouver Island Women’s Clinic, located in Victoria, as they are the only clinics advertising and promoting medical abortion. Yes…by that I mean both clinics have listings in the yellow pages that let “your fingers do the walking”, and both have web sites in hopes of attracting more business.
The cost to the Medical Services Plan of British Columbia for the 2,397 medical abortions, is listed as being $370,249. That’s about $154.46 per abortion….billed by the physician performing the abortion…..we assume.
Now…since at least one of these “medical” abortion clinics is in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority….where do they submit their statistics? Do they report complications to anyone? They are supposed to be “accredited” with the BC College of Physicians…and what does that mean now? In light of how Vancouver’s first abortion clinic was accredited, one has to wonder.
But we’re not allowed to ask that, are we?
Are the Willow Women’s Clinic and the Vancouver Island Women’s Clinic inspected on a regular basis? Are the Willow Women’s Clinic and the Vancouver Island Women’s Clinic an accredited non‐hospital medical surgical facility? What provisions are in place to document health statistics such as: Postoperative complications, Intraoperative complications, prior abortions, gestational age of fetus, age of patient, etc? Where are these health statistics reported to? Certainly not to Stats Canada nor the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). Are there any limitations to what procedures are used in terminations?
How much operating money does each abortion clinic receive from the taxpayer?
Regulatory Failure in the area of medicine is dangerous….especially abortion.
So…we will again ask the questions. Let’s see what the gang says. Stay tuned.
